This is the family marinara recipe. It's easy, vegetarian and damn good.
Makes approx 2 quarts:
In a large saucepan combine:
3 cups chopped onion
3 cloves garlic
1/3 cup olive oil
sautee 5 minutes then add
2 28oz cans tomato puree
2 Tb parsley
1 Tb sugar
1 Tb salt
1 tsp oregano
1 tsp basil
1/4 tsp pepper
1 cup water
simmer for 1 hour.
Helpful hint for freezing:
If you have muffin pans, spray them with a tiny bit of non-stick spray.
Fill with sauce.
Freeze.
Pop the frozen pucks of sauce out and put in a freezer bag.
You now have an easy way to portion out frozen sauce.

Kudos to Aunt Addie... I am going to start doing that... it is a pain to defrost a whole block of sauce for my little bowl of pasta....
