At one point I had covered all my exposed skin with OFF to fight the mosquitos. This worked fine until I had to pee... Somehow a mosquito homed in on the one part of my body that was exposed and not covered with OFF. I fought a valiant battle, and won. I did realize that if I had lost, and gotten a mosquito bite there, that calling in sick to work for 3 days would have been the only way to escape with my dignity.
Met a nice guy there named Robert. He was from Arkansas, but his accent sounded rather odd. I was guessing Cajun until he mentioned his hearing aid. Interestingly, deaf and cajun sound very similar when they are not too thick.
Met Murray the jolly englishman. He was manager of the Hostel back in 1978. One night back then a group of Girl Scouts stayed at the Hostel. Murray and the Scout leader hit it off, fell in love and eventually they were married. 25 years later he was bringing his two teenage sons back to the Hostel so they could see where their parents had met.
I entrusted Brian with applying sunscreen to my back. Bad idea. After a few hours in the sun my back looked like a red and white Picasso.
There was a posse of young ducks wandering around. At one point they were swimming in the lake with us and started heading directly at Ben's head. Once they got to about 3 feet away, they realized that he was not A) another duck or B) food and veered off. Then the zeroed in on Diana and the whole thing started again.
No Means No has not made it to he waterfowl world yet. I saw several instances of attempted duck-rape. When Mr Duck decides he wants some lovin, Mrs Duck can either submit or try to outrun him. In the event that Mrs. Duck cannot outrun Mr Duck, a well plced kick will usually get him out of the mood rather quick.
Ah, hostel. there's a couple similar sort of places here (pai, thailand). bungalows and hammocks on the river, full of annoying hippie yoga freaks. i stayed in one of the places one night and bedbugs chewed the shit out of my neck. i moved to a more conventional, and cheaper, hotel. it's a lot nicer. nothing biting me in the night.
