Signed up today. I'm having Lasik done Thursday the 28th of this month. I could have had it done this Friday, but they require a followup in 24 hours, and someone dared to set their wedding for Saturday. So 7 more days of contacts, 3 days in glasses land, then hopefully normal eyes from then on.

Well, normal after the 3-5 days of really weird vision as your eyes adjust. That was the most irritating part for me. My glasses and contacts were no longer the right prescription so they didn't help, but it took a couple of days for my eyes to really get to normal and in the meantime I was having trouble getting anything done.

Hopefully his recovery will be more like mine, I was absolutely fine within 24 hours. Lasik is quite possibly the best thing that has ever happened to me.

If you can put it off until January, you can pay for it with a 2007 FSA and save a good chunk of change.

I want to use my 2006 FSA, though -- but I think our semantics are merely dissonant. By "2007 FSA", do you mean "FSA whose contribution period ends in 2007?" If so, that's what I was planning to do -- I thought they were available by that time, and indeed only through March of 2007?

I sure hope I didn't fuck my FSA up, but HR certainly explained it to me this way -- money put into FSA medical accounts during 2006 was good for reimbursements through 2007-03.

Time to do the research for myself, blargh!

Money put into your FSA in 2006 is good ONLY for procedures performed in 2006. You can file claims on the 2006 FSA through 03/07. So, if you have Lasik done on Dec 30th, you have until March 31st to file a claim.


So, if you have the cash in your 2006 FSA, do it now. If you don't, have it done in 2007 and claim it against your 2007 FSA.

excellent, that is exactly as I had understood things. in that case, I should have just about 2.2k available as of late december for laser eye extravaganzae and all is well in the world.

You don't need to wait until you have the money in your FSA to get reimbursed. For example, if I reserve $1000 a month for my 2007 FSA, in January I can sumbit a claim for $10,000 and get all of it.

I keep pondering this, although I just got an eye exam a month ago for the first time in a few years, and it seems my prescription changed.... so I guess I won't be able to do this any time soon.

I had an eye exam last December and my perscription had changed a bit too. It's still worth looking in to. They give a full eye exam and tell you if you are eligible before zapping you, and the fee includes 12 months of touch up treatments if needed.


Also, everyones perscription is always changing. They say even with Lasik, I'll probably need reading glasses when I'm in my 40s or 50s. I'd rather have a decade of 20/20 before I need reading glasses than wearing contacts for the next 10 years.
