"Business" Trip

Heads up DC people. It looks like work will be sending me back to Colombia, MD for another week of training. I'll probably be flying up Sunday, Sept 10th, and fly back Sunday, Sept 17th.

I know you will all be thrilled to see me, seeing as it will have been two whole weeks since Burning Man.

Since I'm going to be trapped in Columbia, Maryland (aka the place where fun went to die) during the days, I entrust you will keeping me sane in the evenings.

Hm, maybe we could go up and see Carrie in Philly the weekend of the 16th? What time do you fly out, and what airport?

Good plan.

I haven't bought a ticket yet, so I can fly out when I want. Most likely I'll be flying in and out of BWI.

That would be the most convenient airport for coming back from Philly.

Time to play more pool now!

If you're going from Philly to DC, you could probably get there faster on Amtrak than in the air. Rail isn't a viable option in much of the country, but it is in the DC-Boston corridor.

Many years ago, when I went to visit leezechka in Washington, it was faster for me to get from Philadelphia to the Union Station Metro than it would have taken me to get through one airport, let alone two. And that was long before 9/11, so I can only assume the airports are more onerous and the balance has shifted farther in that direction.

We'll drive. BWI is on the way back.

Columbia MD is boring! You have your pick of many shopping malls.

At least hang out in Baltimore if you have time.

Boring is an understatement. Last fall work shipped me up there, all of my friends from DC were out of town, and my laptop died the first night there.

And you lived?

I mean, Rockville is pretty dull -- REM even advised against going there -- but Columbia makes Rockville look like a party palace.

If you have a rental car, no other plans, and any interest whatsoever in baseball, catch a game at Camden Yards. It's a great park, and you can usually get a reasonable price from the scalpers.
