some random thoughts

ghiniI got a spam the other day that was interesting. At the bottom it had the gibberish sentences designed to foil spam filters. What was funny was that right before it said "Now please enjoy your Postmodern Story of the Day!'
Remember the flash mob craze? Notice how they died out in like a week? This makes me happy. I found the concept supremely annoying. When one person is doing something stupid in public just to appear strange and cool, they're a fucking idiot. When 50 people do it, they're still not cool. It's just a bigger clump of fucking idiots. I think of a lone person trying to start a flash mob. They're standing there all alone, going "beep beep beep" or whatever, growing more and more humiliated because no one else joins in. No one else even cares that this idiot is beeping in public. Finally, consumed by misery and humiliation, they go home. Thoughts like this keep me warm at night.

Date: 2004-04-13 10:13 pm (UTC)Of course, when I saw the first news story about it, I knew it was over. The moment more than 1% of the audience can look at it and say "oh, a flash mob" instead of "What the fuck?" it's lost its appeal. Kind of like the "All Your Base" phenomenon.
