Projection #2:

Linux kernel 1.0 code on Elise.

i had this dream that you were mopping the halls at GSU and i caught you with my camera doing the Old Blue Eyes thing into the mop as though it was a microphone.

then you did an impossibly high kung-fu back flip, but my camera was a pinhole, so i had no more pictures.

and this is lovely!

Now THAT'S more thematic. Perhaps a larger font might show things up better in the smaller resolution... I'd like to see the original shot in full size. Looks very nice.

How are you doing the projection? Just a VGA projection monitor or something?

[identity profile] caligineux.livejournal.com 2004-03-29 10:54 am (UTC)(link)

I don't really understand what you mean by thematic (in this comment and the one on the Cynthia projection) in this context. Care to expand upon that? Visual composition is really not my strong suit.

[identity profile] eneref.livejournal.com 2004-03-29 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
Well... the projection thing is cool... but it's not a composition in and of itself. Showing linux code on the back of Elise is more thematic because, well, Elise is a bit of a computer geek. :)

Cynthia's a traveller, yes... but not specifically Europe per se... so while it suits as somewhat of a theme, perhaps a world map might have been better... or a map of South America or some such.... some place that really comes to mind when one thinks of Cynthia -- to mix the

I'm not dissing Mike's photography or anything.... I have a feeling he's got some great ideas and great visions in mind and is just getting the feel of the whole process at the moment. He has a much better sense for that sort of thing than I.

I did shoot some with a full world map, and some of south america. this was just a digital test shot I took during the shoot.

Part of the problem is that some shapes and patterns do not lend themselves to projection. With Cyn sitting up and South America on her back, she looked kind of hunchbacked. When we projected geographic maps (instead of politicval ones) it looked like she had a strange skin disease.

[identity profile] eneref.livejournal.com 2004-03-29 11:31 am (UTC)(link)
That makes sense. My half-moon/face image always makes people thing I have sme sort of weird skin disease. ;)

Actually i was going to project the GNU public liscense, but that might have said something about rights to my carcass that i didn;t particularly stand behind, if you understand me. ;-)

[identity profile] eneref.livejournal.com 2004-03-29 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
I'd stand behind it... ba dum dum.

If you ever had kids, though, Stallman would probably demand they be released into the public domain.

I wish I had a VGA projector! I shot slides of everything and then used the school slide projector. We have a digital media lab here with a film printer. I'm hoping to get access to it so I can prepare images in Photoshop and then print directly to slide film.

[identity profile] eneref.livejournal.com 2004-03-29 11:19 am (UTC)(link)
Wow. That's one hell of a pain in the ass. Wouldn't it be easier to rent a VGA projector or something? Borrow one from someone rich? :)

[identity profile] eneref.livejournal.com 2004-03-29 11:23 am (UTC)(link)
If 800x600 will do, I've got a VGA projector I can borrow for you to use... as long as you promise not to break it. :)

[identity profile] crazyviscount.livejournal.com 2004-03-30 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
i think this concept is quite interesting because it makes me question what i would want projected on me (maybe i'm being a bit self-centered)

He's been asking everyone what they would like...come up with anything?

[identity profile] weaklikekitten.livejournal.com 2004-03-30 10:47 am (UTC)(link)
It makes me think the same thing... but I haven't come up with anything for me yet. What did you decide on?
