This will be a completely random food post:

1. I made butternut squash risotto last night. It was damn good.

2. The Highlander has put the Cuban sandwich on the menu permanently. Order it with mayo, lettuce and tomato on the side, assemble it at the table and you have a passable Kool Korners substitute.

3. I made artichoke hummus tonight, which was also good.

4. The special at the Highlander this weekend was the bratwurst philly sandwich. Delicious, but probably about as healthy as shooting melted butter into your femoral artery.

My mortgage just got denied. Wells Fargo canceled the loan because the house is in an area with a high number of foreclosures. My first thought was "What area? America?"

Bad news is this sets me back a few weeks. They have to resubmit the mortgage to a new lender, and I'll probably close the second week of December. Good news is rates have dropped, so I'm saving a bit in the long run.

I got some of the miracle fruit tablets from Think Geek. I just chewed two up. The texture of the tablet is about the same as chewy sweet tarts. They taste kind of sour themselves.

First off, some plain greek yogurt. It does in fact taste sweet, and definitely plain-yogurtey. I added some lemon juice to boost the flavor. 1 tablespoon of lemon juice in about 1/2 cup of yogurt makes it sweet and flavorful. It's kind of strange. Your tongue tastes lemon, and recognizes it, and your brain thinks "sour" but your tongue says sweet. It's like an optical illusion for taste. Cooking by MC Escher.

Yuengling Black and Tan tastes very sweet, almost like a Mackesons Stout.

A small sip of a rather elderly red on my counter tastes like some kind of sweet wine, like plum wine.

An old Sangria tastes like Hawiian punch.

This stuff is interesting.
