After seeing this post I was reminded to tell the story of what happened last week. It was the night
achariya came to town. I went over to
lische's place. She lives in a gated complex with one of those callboxes that works the gate. Screen with names above a keypad. You get the idea.
I pull up to the callbox and roll my window down. I'm just about to start dialing when I see something move. I quickly focus on it and realize it is a spider. Not just any spider. It's a spider hanging from the upper edge of the callbox, hanging in front of the screen. It is directly above where my hand will be if I start to dial on the keypad. Obviously, this spider is waiting for me to reach my hand out, so it can drop down and sink it's evil poisonous fangs into my tender flesh.
I need to figure out how to dial. First, I try blowing on the spider, moving him off to the size so he won't be under my hand. This is a sub-optimal solution, because a slight breeze will counteract my wheezing and swing him back into range.
I start rooting around in my car, and eventually come up with a tire pressure gauge. It lets me push the buttons from a distance, but the spider could still swing, drop and get me. Finally I combine the blowing and the tire gauge to get a small safe zone to dial through. Alicia buzzes me in and I'm safe.
This is why I need a fucking flamethrower.
