credit clusterfuck
Apr. 30th, 2007 05:32 pmLast night I was checking my Mastercard balance on the Citibank website, when I noticed a charge:
04/26/07 DTV*DIRECTV SERVICE 800-347-3288 CA $122.57
The thing is, I don't have DirecTV. I've never had DirecTV. I called the number and talked to a rep who told me I should call Citibank and dispute the charge.
I call Citibank and get someone who sounds like they are in India. She tells me that since DirectTV charged me, DirectTV needs to take care of it. I keep berating her until she reluctantly agrees to dispute the charge.
This afternoon I call Citibank again to see if they can tell me how the charge came in. No luck. They tell me to call DirectTV again.
I call DirectTV again. They keep "working on it" for 30 min or so, before the rep tells me she can't figure out how I got the charge. Since I don't have an account, I don't have an account number and she can't look up a charge by credit card number. I ask her if there is a billing or accounting department I can speak with. Nope. Finally I get a bit of truth: "Sir, I've been told the only thing I can do is refer you back to the credit card company." Not helpful, but at least honest.
Tomorrow I attempt to find a phone number for the Accounting department and annoy them into submission.
