Aug. 31st, 2004 11:45 amI had an epiphany yesterday. I've come up with the grand unifying theory of what I want to photograph.
Our bodies are the main object we use to experience life. People use their bodies in different ways.
To some, the body is a canvas. They get tattoos and piercings. They dye their hair, wear clothing and jewelery
To some, it is a vehicle. They jump out of planes, climb up or ride down mountains, or throw it into countless other wild situations and environments that leave muscles, injuries, marks or scars behind.
To some it is a receptacle for drugs. They smoke, shoot, snort and do other things that we can see in their eyes, on their arms and in their walks.
To some it is an antenna for pleasure and pain. They tie it up, whip it, caress it and leave marks in these uses.
To all of us, the body is a receptacle for the brain. It is the sensor that gives us all the input we use to experience the world. It is our transportation.
Our lives leave traces on our bodies. The echoes of our actions can be left in our flesh.
This is what I want to photograph.
