Jun. 12th, 2002 09:50 pmWound up discussing arty movies with Di today. Decided to expand the discussion.
So, what do you consider good art and bad art in a movie?
I can separate plot from style and performance from technology. A recent example is Black Hawk Down. Technically the movie is brilliant. It is shot beautifully and the special effects, sound and editing are near perfect. Alas, the plot is shit. They manage to take a story that is supposedly true and mix in every bad war movie cliche. Still, I enjoyed watching it. I turned down my plot-critic and upped my film-tech-geek and enjoyed it.
So, how do you find the line between a true masterpiece and a flawed one? What makes a movie less of a work of art and what automatically makes it shit?
