Nov. 18th, 2001 08:17 pmHarry Potter grossed approximately $90 million dollars this weekend. To put this in perspective:
You would need to work 8402 years at minimum wage to earn that much (before taxes, no vacation)
Counting $1 per second non-stop, it would take you 2 years, 10 months and one week to reach $90 million.
The movie was a product of the AOL Time Warner juggernaut. Over the past month I have noticed that CNN, Time and other supposedly respectable publications have become Harry Potter promo machines. CNN is one of the most respected brands in journalism, and it has become nothing more than a billboard for its corporate parent.
Big Media has become Big Brother. They want to tell you what to watch, what to consume, etc. I'm kind of glad I got laid off when I did.
