Aug. 22nd, 2001 02:06 amWent out tonight and saw Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Wow. Damn good movie. Fun, funny, great tunes, just damn cool. I'm amazed that I liked not one, but two musicals this year. Moulon Rouge was first. I've always hated musicals. The concept of a movie where they try to reconcile a normal plot with people bursting into song every ten minutes annoyed me. Also, I hate most movie musical style of music. Show tunes are evil.
Moulon Rouge was good because nothing in it was normal. Everything was larger than life. The music combined "Material Girl" with "Smells Like Teen Spirit" in the span of 2 minutes. Also, the director decided that it needed to be over the top in virtually every way. Hedwig was similar. The director, John Cameron Mitchell, wrote the screenplay and is the star. He just let things go all out. It calls itself a "post-punk neo-glam rock musical" and lives up to the title.
Tired now. Want to write, but need bed.
