The cold has mostly died out. The question is, has the bronchitis died with it? I'm still coughing up the occasional little green thing. Since my health insurance is gone, lets hope everything is dead. (me excluded)

Tonight is the final Secret Room. For a while now Jason has been throwing these monthly Goth/cyberpunk/fetish things. Most recently at the Vault in Buckhead. Alas, the Vault is now to become a gay jazz club, so Secret Room is over. For now. Jason is planning new stuff as always.

I've got this horribly restless feeling today. The urge to do SOMETHING. Yet I don't know what. I've spent the majority of the past two weeks in this damn house either too sick or too poor to go out. I need input. Perhaps I'll wander up to Innovox and grab a cup of coffee. I need a new book though.

I tend to fall madly in love with one author/artist/band/etc at a time. I've been hit with an all consuming urge to consume everything someone has created many times. The books of Dan Simmons, William Gibson, Greg Rucka, Neal Stephenson, PJ O'Rourke, Mark Leyner, TC Boyle, Raymond Chandler, Terry Pratchett, Bruce Sterling, the list goes on and on. Sometimes the urge burns out after I've bought all of the books, but only read half of them. Other times I burn through every book they have and find myself depressed there aren't more.

Pratchett is a prime example. I first found him when he cowrote Good Omens with Neil Gaiman back in the early 90s. I was a huge Gaiman fan and loved the book. I decided to try out Pratchett and grabbed a few of his paperbacks off the shelves. Never got through more than the first one. Six or seven years later I'm living with Beaker, who is a Pratchett fan. He loans me a book. I love it. In those years both Pratchett and I grew up. His writing improved and I matured enough to realize it. Now I gladly pay about $35 US to have his books shipped from the UK where they are released six months to a year earlier than in the USA.

My latest obsession is the work of Joss Wheedon. Who's he? The guy responsible for Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Mock me all you want, but under the teen show and the horror show is some truly amazing writing. The God-I-wish-I-could-write-like-that writing. I have a small group of like-minded people who agree with me and congregate at my place on Tuesdays, but for the most part people just assume I'm some kind of idiot man-child with a unhealthy lust for Alyson Hannigan. This may be true, but it's beside the point.

So what do I do? I buy a DVD player that can play any region's discs. (Actually, this is my third try at the region free DVD player, but that is another story.) Then I order the season 1 and 2 DVD box sets from amazon.UK. Then I download season 3 and 4 episodes from the net and burn VCDs of them. Yes, it's pathetic, but I'm unemployed and can't afford to drink the days away.
